Action Beat
First off to start playing at around 8.20pm was Action Beat a band from Milton Keynes that I would say puts the E in experimental. There was 10 of em up on the stage and apparently it fluctuates, so one gig there could be 8 and another 12. As soon as they kicked off I thought great, brilliant these guys are really on to something here. They played for almost half an hour and by the end the only con I had was that they sounded too much of the same thing. Hopefully these boys will alternate their songs a bit, use more sweet melodies and work on catchy chord changes. Coz I really liked this band and I really think they are on to something special. Anyway look out for Action Beat they're weird and wonderful. All you mental people please check-em out on - myspace/actionbeat.co.uk

F.I.N.K
Next at 8.55pm was F.I.N.K who must be starting to fink that I'm a stalker coz I've been to all their gigs so far. If you don't already know F.I.N.K are a three piece funk rock outfit from MK specializing in only original funky material. They must be working hard because each time I see them they have new material which gets better and better. My favorite song of theirs was the new one they've just written. I'd tell you the name of it but because F.I.N.K are just starting off they don't have the luxury of names yet. The F.I.N.K boys will be recording soon and sending out their demos. Let's hope that God blesses them with a good recording studio. Amen
Modus Vivendi
3rd up was another MK band called Modus Vivendi who started at 9.30pm. These guys sounded a little like Lenny Kravitz meets the Chillies but a bit harder. They had some great funky riffs and found them to be bravely experimental. I think I like everything about them except their black metal moments but that is just my own personal opinion. I chatted briefly with Beanie, the bass player forward slash singer who told me they're a band that has been going a couple of years. I recognized Beanie from a band called The Ideas that he used to front as lead guitarist and singer. He seems to be a talented young man having other projects and his fingers in a few pies. Earlier on he was playing the drums for Action Beat, plus Beanie will be playing the drums for Gabriella Cilmi who will be at the Stables on the 5th June.

Pilgrim Fathers
Last up was a band from outer town called Pilgrim Fathers who started at 10.15pm and embarrassingly for them the hall started clearing and by their second song was almost empty. Naughty enough I left too. For those who are interested in the Pilgrim Fathers they were like Iron Maiden with effects. I was just pleased to have heard F.I.N.K again and the two new acts, new to me anyway, Action Beat and Modus Vivendi and will be looking forward to hearing more of them in the future.
